Protesters show off their guns, but why?

August 18, 2009 - For the second time this month, protesters at an Obama speech were seen openly carrying guns outside of the venue. Last week it was a man in New Hampshire with a pistol strapped to his thigh and this week it was a man in Phoenix, Arizona with an assault rifle slung over his shoulder. I'm sure they feel really manly carrying their big guns around. What do they plan to do with them? Furthermore, what are they compensating for? These are the same people that drive around in trucks that are jacked up on monster truck tires even though they have never taken their truck off-road.

I understand, it's their right, and they weren't breaking any laws, but what's the point? It's certainly not self-defense. When you're that close to the president of the United States you are in one of the most secure places in the world. The only other purpose for a weapon is hunting, but I highly doubt that these men were carrying urban hunting permits to these rallies. So...why carry your weapon? I will never understand this type of person, because I suppose they were simply demonstrating their constitutional right to openly carry guns. Still, these were speeches on healthcare reform, not gun control...so...again, why carry your weapons?

The stories of these gun toting Americans are very interesting and it is particularly interesting that this seems to be a new practice. I have never heard of people legally carrying guns to presidential rallies before, probably because there is no point to do it. But, I'm sure these people are so paranoid about Obama's policies that they are convinced healthcare reform will lead to Obama completely ripping up the constitution. After all, he is a socialist, maybe a communist, who knows, he may even have been born in Kenya. Oh, and don't forget, he's also a Muslim, or maybe a Christian, but only a Christian when he is associated with Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Actually, to get the facts right, he converted to Islam after abandoning Reverend Wright. OK, now that we have all of that straight, I guess we do have plenty to be paranoid about.

We have a communist Muslim in office who is dead set on destroying the United States of America by taking control of everything and tearing freedom out of the hands of the American public. Yes, this all makes sense, all of the paranoia makes sense. President Obama wants to destroy the fundamentals of this country, when it is those very fundamentals that allowed for him to climb the societal ladder in route to becoming the leader of the free world.

Therefore, conservatives, especially those way out in right field, stop being so paranoid. Without a doubt, President Obama will make mistakes, and in your eyes, possibly many. However, he is not destroying the America you know, outside of the fact that the America many of you know would not have allowed him to vote, let alone get elected. He is simply pursuing a progressive agenda that you disagree with. Well go ahead and disagree with him, but since his inauguration our economy is on the upswing. Last month we witnessed the stock market's best July in twenty years, new home sales are on the rise, General Motors just brought back over 1,000 employees and many economists predict that the recession may be over. Not perfect, but not a bad start, especially in comparison to the track record of George W. Furthermore, Obama has begun the withdrawal from Iraq, pulling out of Iraqi cities, proclaiming,"MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!" Oh, sorry, I got my presidents mixed up, that was President Bush who said that over six years ago. Anyways, he has refocused our attention on Afghanistan, going after terrorists where they actually live, not where they relocated to fight us.

I didn't think conservatives smoked marijuana, but with all their paranoia they should either lay off the pipe or never start smoking. Stop being paranoid and give the guy a chance. You would never know it listening to your protesters and talk-show hosts, but things aren't all that bad, in fact, they are getting better. Don't be mislead, President Obama has the same goals that all of you have, he just has a different strategy for accomplishing them. Most importantly, never forget, we are all on the same team and we should be working together to accomplish the goals of this nation. So carry your guns, protest all you want, but do so on the basis of fact, not fabrication. Actually, scratch that. It is your right to carry guns, but don't unless you need to, and protest all you want, but do so on the basis of fact, not fabrication. OK, that's better...now I'm off to Larry's Pawn Shop to purchase an assault rifle for my upcoming Pro-Choice rally.
